Todays blog is about types of harps.....
If you are really keen on a harp for your special day, you will have a choice of two types...CELTIC (folk) or CONCERT (pedal)
Heres a piccie of the two
To the left is a celtic harp. Its
much smaller than the concert harp and will need a bit less space
and is much easier and lighter and can be carried solo.
The concert harp in comparison
stands at 6 ft tall and because it
has an iron frame and a pedal system is much heavier. Its much
more difficult to transport and will need a large vehicle and an extra pair of hands.
The folk harp will make a beautifully delicate sound and set a lovely etherial atmosphere. The concert harp is built to be heard with a full orchestra and has a much bigger sound board attached
and therefore makes a bigger sound......the pedals will allow for a wider
repertoire of music, where jazz and classical have many accidentals, the
pedal harp will allow for this.
When I decided to buy the concert harp
I wasnt really prepared for some of the
logistics of actually setting the harp up!
Luckily, some venues have lifts that are big enough for me and Harpie together!
In other places....welll....hmmm
you will need an extra three pairs
A bit of forward planning and organization needed....but well worth it
when the concert harp is set up and playing as the bride enters!!! It will become the focal part of your room!!!!
and here we are in the depth
of winter weddings 2010....
where even the brides were struggling to get to their receptions....thank goodness harpie has a trolley!!!
As you can imagine, pricing varies between celtic harpists and concert harpists for the above reasons. They are two different products...but theres therefore a market out there to suit all budgets!
REMEMBER WHEN YOU BOOK ME YOU NOT ONLY HAVE A HARPIST BUT ALSO A PIANIST.......ORGANIST and VOCALIST
MY PACKAGE DEALS INCLUDE ALL OF THE ABOVE FOR BOTH CEREMONY and RECEPTION and if youd like DINNER!!!!!
