Galgorm Resort and Spa... Great Hall Lower Refurbishment

NI Harpist Les Magee: Posted on 26 April 2015 09:20
This Spring saw another exciting venture from Galgorm Resort and Spa and the surprises do keep coming from this tip top Resort!

This is where my own wedding reception took place and it was the top fabulous venue even then!

On approaching the entrance hall we have this view of the most opulent Chandelier and the beautiful floral work of Sally’s Floral Studio dressing the banister

Have a look at the main seating area, with its comfy sofas in rich hues and tones. Bright and airy, yet retaining the central open fire…thank goodness for that!
A great place to thaw out after the photo session 🙂

And the wonderfully spacious bar area in lighter oak, matching beautifully with the oak flooring…a major bonus for the Harpie accoustics when I perform for drinks before dinner!

And now for a look at the dining room. Fabulous chandeliers set the atmosphere with room dressing by Barbara at Fairytales.

AH….here she is….!

Room dressed and ready to go as the top table is set!

Look who I met in the Renaissance Suite…
Tis the two James Robinsons…really there are TWO!
Cameoflage

and…here’s a wee sneak of the lovely team who will make your big day perfect in every way! They are certainly a pleasure to work with when I perform at Galgorm 🙂

What I can say is that if you are looking for a larger venue with plenty of light and space, decorated in the most up to date of styles yet retaining the comfy features then this is for you!
I am always proud to receive bookings for the resort for ceremonies of all types, drinks reception and for dinner. Harpie, voice, piano and organ available.

Shown here performing in the atrium of the Renaissance Suite, Great Hall Upper. Piccie by the swifty Mr Kris Dickson

An Grianin Hotel... the perfect wedding venue...!

Les M: Posted on 27 July 2012 01:05

So many times on my way to various Donegal venues, I have passed this magnificent hotel, with is proud and modern circular entrance and the quaint little church which is cleverly integrated and forms their atmospheric restaurant….

The first thing you will notice is the amazing amount of space available in the main reception area…great for meeting and greeting your guests on the big day!!!

Gotta love this chandelier!!!

And some quirky wee nooks and crannies!!!!

Now…a look at the main function room set up in all its splendour for someones big day….roomy, plenty of light and with a platform for the all important top table!

The ever popular candy cart… yumm

and some beautiful table centres
from a recent wedding by
The Wedding Room!!!!

Love this wee touch for your drinks reception!!

SO one of the bonuses for me about this great venue is the
presence of a fabulous grand piano. Heres my Harpie with the grand.
Book me for drinks and you can have both Harpie and piano for the same price!
If you are on a budget…why not have me on piano alone!!
Sorted.

Now on to the other merits!!!

everyone should check this out. I have eaten there now a few times always great food and spectacular service from the waiters….plus an extra special atmosphere!! (romance prevails!)

Restaurant is well worth the visit…or for more casual dining, the hotel also has a bistro with an excellent menu too!!!
Remember its only a 50 min drive from Coleraine too…!!!

So the merits of An Grianin …call in and have a look for yourself. Staff are helpful and you can have a look around and maybe have a wee bite in the church <3

Christmas at Millicent House
Les M: Posted on 28 December 2011 02:39
Well, over the years I have come to love taking harpie to Millicent House for the annual carols and, of course supper! What better atmosphere to perform in than this 18th century maison found in the centre of the village in which I grew up, and with the host and hostess with the mostesses… Roger and Rosella.
Roger has a great passion for music, having been a boy chorister, he has the sort of enthusiasm for choral music that I can appreciate!
So its out with the Oxford book of carols for a night of Rutter and Wilcocks (mostly!)
christmas carols on harpYou couldnt set a more magical atmosphere if you tried, what with the the open fire in a house steeped in history, the harpie gal and a group of good friends, oh and of course the wonderful cuisine of the fabulous Rosella!

……so heres the maestro with his
manuscripts, ready for a good old sing…

…and a wee bit of conducting to keep us all together………

Songs with harp at Millicent HouseRichard (of Harmony Hill Country House) sings
out with gusto (cant believe he has hidden that singing talent under a bushel for so long!)

Catch up the gals!!!!

….Me gal and me…..

and…Rosellas fabulous tree!
what a fabulous night…one of the best yet, I would say..just goes to show that the harpie gal doesnt have to be at a wedding to enjoy herself, you know!

Christmas Wedding with the harpie!!!

Posted on 29 December 2011 15:02

Its always great to use the harp at a Christmas wedding….this time for friends, Amanda and Richard. What a gorgeous and atmospheric day!

Couldnt resist taking a sneak peek round at the birds house before she got dressed!

And….also sneak a peek at the nice and tidy speech writing! (NOT)

Galgorm Resort Bride

And grab a last cup of tay as a single gal..(at least this time she hasnt got it in the car!!)

And sure there they are……!

And a perfect piccie with the river in overflow at the fabulous Galgorm Resort and Spa

Och….give the bride a tune!!!

So….time to relax….what a lovely day for the harpie….she loves weddings…but she really loves a Christmas wedding! xx

A Harp is a harp... or is it?????

Les M: Posted on 27 March 2012 12:32

Todays blog is about types of harps…..
If you are really keen on a harp for your special day, you will have a choice of two types…CELTIC (folk) or CONCERT (pedal)

Heres a piccie of the two harps together….

To the left is a celtic harp. Its much smaller than the concert harp and will need a bit less space and is much easier and lighter and can be carried solo.

The concert harp in comparison stands at 6 ft tall and because it has an iron frame and a pedal system is much heavier. Its much
more difficult to transport and will need a large vehicle and an extra pair of hands.

The folk harp will make a beautifully delicate sound and set a lovely etherial atmosphere. The concert harp is built to be heard with a full orchestra and has a much bigger sound board attached and therefore makes a bigger sound……the pedals will allow for a wider
repertoire of music, where jazz and classical have many accidentals, the pedal harp will allow for this.

When I decided to buy the concert harp I wasnt really prepared for some of the logistics of actually setting the harp up!
Luckily, some venues have lifts that are big enough for me and Harpie together!

In other places….welll….hmmm you will need an extra three pairs of hands!

A bit of forward planning and organization needed….but well worth it when the concert harp is set up and playing as the bride enters!!! It will become the focal part of your room!!!!

and here we are in the depth of winter weddings 2010….
where even the brides were struggling to get to their receptions….thank goodness harpie has a trolley!!!

As you can imagine, pricing varies between celtic harpists and concert harpists for the above reasons. They are two different products…but theres therefore a market out there to suit all budgets!

REMEMBER WHEN YOU BOOK ME YOU NOT ONLY HAVE A HARPIST BUT ALSO A PIANIST…….ORGANIST and VOCALIST

MY PACKAGE DEALS INCLUDE ALL OF THE ABOVE FOR BOTH CEREMONY and RECEPTION and if youd like DINNER!!!!!

DRENAGH... Romance, Jane Austin Style for your Big Day

Les Magee: Posted on 08 May 2013 22:43

SO it has to be said that there’s a full on change in the trend of wedding venues in general, with more people now opting for something a bit more alternative.

I first visited DRENAGH a few years ago, when they were just considering setting up as a venue for brides marrying in the NW!

I thought it time to find out for myself of all the good things I had been hearing, so off I set on the May bank SO off I set on the May bank holiday to find out just what’s been going on at this beautiful gentlemans residence and  country estate!

After meeting the wonderful Cathy in her office, we went on walkabout to have a look at the amazing changes and transformations!
Here’s my first port of call. The brand new marquee, seating 300 guests within the walled garden. This is the side view, complete with decking…receive your guests for champagne reception here! Wonderful!

State of the art washrooms and fabulous bar complete with huge dance floor prevails inside!
Exciting!
The marquee is set in a beautifully landscaped walled garden….complete with fountain.

So…grab a parasol and lets take in the gardens!

Herein lies one of the most spectacular pieces of architectural history….
the wonderfully romantic MOON GARDEN, available for your ceremony ( civil or religious)
And don’t worry, as every eventuality of the Northern climate has been  anticipated with the addition of a removeable canopy!

Wow-de wow at the view from the back of the moon garden. Isn’t this just something else indeed? Now lets see inside!

Steps to say ” I Do!”
With beautiful feature wall behind. Decor and florists paradise!!!!

SO…..moving on to the gardens beyond the maison……

Got to love this…..

Amazing photo opportunities everywhere you turn!

SO next its off to the Clock Tower.A beautiful self catering wing of the house. Available for wedding guests or simply for a couple of days chill for you and your friends. Beautiful and full of character.

The main sitting/kitchen/dining area

And here is my very favourite room of all…
reach me my candle holder and my Pride and Prejudice.
prey thee goodnight, Sir!

This wonderful apartment is available as a two bed or four bed rental. Views from the windows are stunning and so relaxing.

And ALL in all a beautiful venue with flexibility of the marquee, the moon garden and the Clock Tower accomodation. Extra accomodation is also available within the main residence.

Glagorm Resort and Spa Great Hall. Harp for drinks. My relationship with the folks at Galgorm goes back a long way I’m guessing over 20 years, when I was the wee girl who performed on the grand piano in front of what was the long bar in the old reception lounge. Times have changed and there has been major renovation and expansion since then!

Theres now a huge selection of choices if you decide to have your wedding here. Theres the stately great hall with two function suites and the brand new and gorgeously pristine Four Seasons Suite (dont foget to visit it at the show!). For a totally atmospheric ambiance for your ceremony The Phantom House has got to win hands down.

James Robinson, who has been there as long as I can remember, will be on hand to light the thousands of candles that make it oh soooo romantic! Its a great benefit to have the ceremony and the reception in one venue… especially in winter when you dont want to waste precious daylight hours travelling from church to reception!

The hotel caters for every size of wedding and there are great package deals available for all budgets and using only the finest of suppliers..visit their stall on Sunday!!

So, talking of music…harpie will add to the timeless elegance of this venue..for ceremony/reception or both! Special discount for those booking on the day. Dont miss this!!!

It was a fabulous day…one of the busiest I have seen at the resort..with all staff working extra hard to show brides and grooms what it has to offer…

My connection with Galgorm goes back lots of years…to when I was a student and the Hotel was lots smaller…and I was their pianist on the weekends….it was a great place then…..but now….well….its just total FAB……!

THE BEST OF 2013

Les M: Posted on 15 February 2014 20:06

THE BEST OF 2013

Last year seems ages ago now! Its taken me a while to think over the highlights. It was an exceptionally busy year of travel all over N and S Ireland and also to London for a little plucking too! So where to start?

The year started with my very first visit to Lough Erne Resort
and the beautiful function room , complete with crystal chandeliers

And hows this for a totally
wonderful backdrop for your piccies?

Then it was off to the Oratory at Ballyliffin for a beautiful ceremony and
straight across the road to the Ballyliffin Lodge and Spa for some Drinkies…..

Over to London to perform in the famous Sofitel St James, Pall Mall.

I managed another wee burst in the Long Gallery at Stormont Parliament Buildings once more. Proud to perform at this important occasion and in such a prestigious building.

Then there were the Castles!
Here’s the church at Castle Leslie Estate. This is the church where Paul McCartney was married!
Book Harpie for this and you have the organ music for free!

And here’s my Harpie set up in the dining room for the drinks reception before dinner…

Then there was Castle Upton, just across from the Templeton Hotel. What a beautiful residence…with its very own peacock in the garden!

Just Beautiful……………..

Belfast Castle in the wilting heat ( can you believe?)

Ballygally Castle for an outdoor wedding on the hottest day of the year! Yes really…….

Then there were a plethora of beautiful Galgorm Resort Brides.
What an amazing place with so many different venue and pricing options!

The amazing Ghost House

With bouquets by Sallys Floral Studio
( got to love this gals bouquets)

And my good friend Jos wedding with the piccies by the River

with Derek J Ewing as MC and generally carrier of suitcases, Photographers gaffer, speech maker, dryer of tears….you name it!

And the so so trendy Four Seasons Suite….
Oh I could write about Galgorm all day I have so many piccies of it!
Remember the Launch of the New Great Hall is coming right up on
SUN 13 APRIL 2014

On to the beautifully romantic
Mussenden Temple….with flowers by
Ma Fleur.

Just look at this beautiful bouquet
by mark at Ma Fleur, Portstewart.

Then there were the DRENAGH weddings.
THis picture shows a civil ceremony set up in the ballroom by The WEDDING ROOM Coleraine.

Harpie set up in the dining room!

In the beautiful
MOON GARDEN

During the ceremony…

And the marquee
(flowers by Tortraits)

Before I knew it, it was Jingle bell time and up to LEAF DESIGNS for some Christmas music at their open days…

And down to SOLIS CASTLE ESKE
for a lovely Christmas wedding on Harpie and piano both…hmmmm I can still smell that mulled punch!

Then it was up to the lovely TULLYGLASS, where Harpie shared the stage with Santa in the beautiful Conservatory…

with this lovely trio….

The year ended with concerts.
This is CANTARE performing at the Riverside Theatre , Coleraine

And here I am with singer MAGGIE FERRIS,
who organized the concert

Concert with Cantemus at Star of the Sea, with Hazel Drummond, who has taught me everything I know.

St Patricks, Coleraine for nine lessons and carols.
Christmas definitely in the air.

My 12 hour non stop music for charity event has become an annual event, with friends from near and far meeting for a good old sing/play together!

Below are some of the kids who benefited from last years monies! These are two projects which are run out in Tunisia!

The girls and their embroidery

Phew…..so I think that was it for last year. Just a short summary. There were so many weddings, all equally beautiful and I always get to meet some of the nicest people! Now I’m looking forward to casting some magic over some gorgeous weddings in the coming year! Have you booked yet? Mail me for a special quote harpie1@live.co.uk

Oh and I almost forgot….the prize for chief lifter of Harpie this year goes to…..

Markie….at Ma Fleur…..!!!

Galgorm Resort and Spa....Great Hall Lower Refurbishment

LOOKING BACK....THE BEST OF 2012

Les M: Posted on 11 January 2013 23:44

Looking back over last years diary, I have to say there were some great times , some beautiful brides and some totally fabulous venues.
One of the best places for me is Galgorm Resort and Spa not only because I have a long association with making music there, but because of the sheer choice of function suites, packages and of course the wonderful staff….nothing is ever too much trouble!

Ni Harpist Les Magee
So the year started with a gorgeous wedding in the Four Seasons Suite…cant believe thats a year ago. I was to return there many times during the year and also to the Phantom House, Ghost House and the Great Hall, all of which have their own fabulous ambiance.

Ni Harpist Les Magee

Next it was down to SOLIS CASTLE ESKE for a little bit of Harpie

Ni Harpist Les Magee

And for a little bit of tinkling the ivories of this beautiful white baby for the drinks!

So where can we go to next but a wee trip next door to the beautiful
Harveys Point Hotel

Ni Harpist Les Magee Harveys Point

Heres the beautiful bride and
her groom, just before dinner is called

Ni Harpist Les Magee Harveys Point

Oh and heres a wee sneaky pic
and what a view it is!

Of course what a very big year it was for our very own Belfast and for the new TITANIC MUSEUM. I felt really pleased to perform for the NITB at this beautiful venue, although it has to be said it is also a fabulous wedding venue too Ni Harpist Les Magee titanic

TITANIC BELFAST………….
Where the famous carpet matched the gown. LOL

Ni Harpist Les Magee St Eugenes CathedralAnd so it was back to more weddings again. Its great when you go to play harp or sing etc and find yourself in an awesome cathedral…
Heres my Harpie in St Eugenes Cathedral. What a beautiful house of God…..

It’s one of my favourite venues because of is wonderful accoustics. What a privelege to play harp, sing and also to play the wonderful three manual organ….

Ni Harpist Les Magee St Eugenes Cathedral

Widors toccata sounds fab on this instrument!
(never mind the sticky sweet on the organ stool ewwww!)

Now we are on the topic, one of my most exciting bookings this year came ,once again, in conjunction with NITB. This time in St Annes Cathedral Belfast, where MCI had set up the most fabulous and atmospheric ambiance for a very special dinner

Ni Harpist Les Magee

The Highlight of Harpies Year at St Annes Cathedral. What a beautiful place…made even more beautiful by those fantastic uplighters!

So of course we do spend quite a lot of the year promoting etc and there was one very special night in our very own Coleraine

Ni Harpist Les Magee

Heres my Harpie Gal at
THE WEDDING ROOM
decor and event specialists open evening.

Ni Harpist Les Magee

Oh la…I love those table centres!

Ni Harpist Les Magee Clandeboye Lodge

Co Down has another gorgeous
venue, especially if you are having
a civil doo. Heres the wonderful
CLANDEBOYE LODGE. This is the beautiful ceremony room which is found upstairs. Sets a beautiful atmosphere…and an even nicer one with the Harpie gal serenading the guests!

Ni Harpist Les Magee
Then its a little further south into the county of Down to the beautiful
5 star SLIEVE DONARD HOTEL and SPA

A great place for Harpie and has the added bonus of a grand piano as well….

Ni Harpist Les Magee
This year there were several weddings at the beautiful MUSSENDEN TEMPLE OF THE WINDS…oh the romance of the rugged North coast….I love it!

DECOR HERE BY
THE WEDDING ROOM
Ni Harpist Les Magee

Following on with the theme of alternative venues, this year saw the opening of LISSAN HOUSE to the public…as both a venue of historical interest and also as a wedding venue. And gorgeous it is.

Heres my Harpie in the Ballroom. Fabulous for a civil ceremony /dinner.

Ni Harpist Les Magee
Then there was the most alternative venue of them all…The Aegean Odyssey and the beautiful white grand for midnight recitals. And of course , the best view in the world.

Ni Harpist Les Magee

JACKSONS family run hotel in Donegal is every musicians dream…with the fabulous new banqueting suite and a beautiful piano with the Harpie on tow!

Ni Harpist Les Magee

And the beautiful conservatory at KEES HOTEL,
Ballybofey….
Perfect for your drinks reception!

So we have covered a fair few miles in the space of a year, Harpie and me. We ended on a high note with my TEN HOUR NON STOP MUSIC for charity, when loads of my musical friends joined me for a musical extravaganza to provide for two places very close to my heart!
Ni Harpist Les Magee

Here we are as old friends unite again for a beautiful evening of song!

Ni Harpist Les Magee

For these little guys…and many more like them!

It was a busy year… and this year Im hoping to do it all again…in the same locations and in some new ones and with a whole new set of beautiful brides!

Ghost House at Galgorm Spa and Resort.

Les M: Posted on 16 June 2012 09:46

So last month saw my first performance in The beautiful Ghost House at Galgorm Spa and Resort and what a venue, on what was probably the warmest day of our year!

Bright and airy, set in the
grounds of the estate…how gorgeous is this?

So when I arrived, Sally
was already there working
her magic on the beautiful
flowers

And of course, the
thousands of candles and
ivy with roses and petals….

gorgeuse!!!!

As you can see, the Great hall is not too far from view!

Patrick was preparing
the all important red carpet

dont hoover until I wheel harpie in!!!!

Sir James was checking out
some last minute details
in his usual bid for perfection

(big hugs)

He really is fabulous at the job!!!

Oh look at Sallys
gorgeous pink roses!

And heres my best gal
ready to perform for the
arrival of the guests
and then one beautiful bride!

And wasnt she just
lovely?

The blessing of the marriage….awwww

Plenty of girl power on the day with the wonderful
Rev Maureen Hassard of Ballymena Methodist Church!

And of course my eyes would keep wandering to these
confections of perfection…
I love Sallys Bouquets….

And these beautiful gals!

So after the ceremony,
it being such a scorcher,
I decided to wheel harpie
up the path to the Four
Seasons for the reception..

Phewwww sweat…..

much to the amusement of Michael McKay!!!

Time to get my own back now….!

Here he is, up a hill at Galgorm getting the best possible shot of the guests!

And again….as he sets up
the perfect shot on what was a gorgeous day!

Yooohoooo!!

Before we knew it…
time for dinner in the fabulous four Seasons suite…

…..and my last little blessing of the day…I spied these cutie pies whilst packing up….
couldnt resist a wee
chat….xxx

And the sunset on the way home…..another beautiful day in one of the best wedding venues with some of the best suppliers in the business.

I can totally endorse the Ghost House as a ceremony venue….romantic and suitable whatever the weather…did I mention it has a cute woodburning stove too!!!!

THe church itself, known as St Colmcilles ( named after a saint who was born in the nearby village of Gartan) perches on a hillside with a magnificent view of Gartan lake with the surrounding mountains .

How’s this for a view from the Church?

And the view from the organ stool! Hard oh so hard to concentrate on the musac!

And such a beautiful building inside. Not long refurbished and with excellent accoustics for Harpie and singer alike

Speaking of Donegal singers…

Oh and here we are ready for the bride to appear!

And heres one of our favourites!
Father McKeever has given some of the most wonderful Homilys this past year.

Not forgetting the wonderful brides and grooms that we have seen happily married at Glendowan in 2012.

Harpie and My Gowns!

Posted on 15 July 2013 18:25

Now, one of the interesting things about my website is that I can see exactly where people are searching from in the world! I can also see exactly what phrase they used to google me.
So last week I was having a smile to myself as someone had googled “Les Magee Gowns”
Now that is an interesting topic. Harpie will always come along with a fabulous gown and the exciting thing about that, is that nearly all of them are bought from Charity, meaning others less fortunate will benefit, whist hopefully I will look good as well as sound good, at your event.
Lets have a look at a few…….

This wee red number came out of a phone call from Gloria at HOPE and GLORIA , Coleraine. All proceeds from the shop go to help those less fortunate. Its a virtual treasure trove..so get down there!

I did modify the collar and added a vintage brooch from
MKvintage, who have a fabulous stall at the St Georges Market, Belfast.

So this lovely one came from Vintage Oxfam in Belfast.
In 2010/11, Oxfam reached a staggering 14.5 million people in 57 countries! So its got to be for a good cause!
Full length tafetta skirt with velvet polka dot and double underskirt, bodice in velvet. It really is a beautiful quality.
Pictured here at the wonderful
Mussenden Temple, the perfect romantic venue for you wedding!

This beautiful dress is pink silk over laid with black lace. I customized the flowers on the waistband. It came from the Cancer Shop on Railway Rd, Coleraine.

Photograph on the rooftop of Lissan House, Cookstown. Another beautiful venue…..

This pink number came from the Cancer Shop in Limavady. Its beautifully made and has netted underskirt.
Here it is with a fab pair of pink leather mules bought about 12 years ago in Copenhagen.

Perhaps this is one of my oldest and the favourite. Emerald velvet bodice and satin skirt and sash. I bought this in Oxfam Coleraine, where the gals are always looking out for gowns for me!
Again it has a netted underskirt and the colour is beautiful.
Photo taken for an intimate wedding at one of my own favourties Solis Castle Eske.

In the wonderful backdrop of the altar at St Eugenes Cathedral, this very straight tourquoise number is of heavy satin. You cannot see clearly but the bodice is embroidered with silver thread. I don’t usually wear it with Harpie as the skirt is so straight and makes it difficult to play! It is gorgeous and would be great for a summer cruise!
Bought from Cancer Research Coleraine.

So thats about all from my vintage frocks. I am wearing another tomorrow night but dont have a pic as yet. Look out on my Facebook page for that. Charity shops have some of the most beautiful vintage dresses and its great to know the money is going to worthwhile projects all over!

Jacksons certainly did stop my breath!!!

Les M: Posted on 17 October 2011 17:56

Well I promised I’d blog on Jacksons..so here we go. It has to be said I have passed this venue many times on he way through Ballybofey…its right in the centre of town with a river running through the grounds!

Last Friday saw the wedding of Deirdre and Chris, with a beautifully touching ceremony in St Marys, Stranolar and then on to Jacksons for further celebration… and celebration was exactly what it was.

Jacksons hotel. Harp and piano for drinks receptionSo I was wheeling Harpie into the function suite… and I really did have to stop to catch my breath…. a sumptuously beautiful foyer with a fabulous marble floor as far as the eye can see and a huge Hollywood staircase leading up to the Function rooms.

But my eye caught the gorgeous boudoir grand piano , which has pride of place. A fabulous Bluthner that would cause any pianist of worth much excitement (it really did :-)). This is any musicians ideal venue…lots of decandent space and a fabulous instrument to play whilst everyone helps themselves to finest pink champers and nibbles… I had a wonderful time… harpie had her show… but Im afraid Bluthner won the day as I ran away with some of my old jazz pieces from cruising days… Staff… what can I say… they were on every corner to help and as friendly as only the Donegal Ones can be… including the manager and , indeed, the owner!!

So… another fabulous venue which sets a wonderful scene for your drinks reception perfectly… I hope I get back there soon, to continue my tete-a-tete with my latest new friend, Mr Bluthner!!

Kees of Ballybofey Kees of Ballybofey... Not just for weddings, you know...!!!

Posted on 19 February 2012 10:43

So I have been trying to write this blog alll week. This is the tenth attempt as vista isnt working properly at present! Its also looking like I wont be able to upload pics to this blog…but will try at a later date…

So where was I….Kees Hotel and Leisure Club is where I am heading today….
Family owned and family run…its the personal touch that brings people back time after time to re charge their batteries….!
I just happened to be down there last week for cabaret and the open fire greeted me in the front bar….Cozy and gorgeous…so i just had a wee moments relaxation and a very large and delicious hot chocolate! yum

This is a great place to relax theres no doubt and with the Blue Stacks and lough Eske nearby….wht more could you want for a little weekend break…

In any case , I have been here a few times. Its a very popular wedding venue with its large function suite and of course the conservatory is totally ideal for receiving your guests for drinks before the meal.

Harpie loves to play in here…plenty of light and fabulous accoustics to serenade you all…..

Today sees their wedding fayre from 4.30- 7.30 pm . It really is worth a visit. Fabulous ( and friendly) exxhibitors….everthing you need in one place to cut down the stress levels….

Harpie will be playing of course. I am offering a special discount package for anyoe who books with me today….

Dont miss out……!!!!
Come and enjoy the fayre….then you can retire to that lovely open fire and have a bite to eat….perfect!!!!

RECENT LONDON PERFORMANCES

Les Magee: Posted on 03 May 2013 11:13

During the course of a year, I’d say I am privileged to visit many fabulous venues….Last month saw me travel to London for a couple of weekends performing at the fabulous Sofitel St James on Piccadilly.

Afternoon tea of course, is quintessentially English and is still big business within the best 5 star hotels in London. Here it is no different
So I made my way to the Rose Lounge in order to suss out their very own Harpie.
You can actually smell the scent of roses in this beautiful lounge, tables strewn with rose petals and all……

And here she is…..a wee bit different from my ebony Harpie but so elegant and lovely!

Lovely accoustics and a touch of class. Mind you….all those cake stands and sweet trolley was making me v hungry….

Oh and he
Now you can see what I mean………………………………….

These are all served up by the lovely Julietta, who will cater for your every whim

The hotel has a fabulous bistro style restaurant, reasonable prices and a very interesting menu. Man entrance on the corner of Pall Mall.Oh and it also has a beautiful spa, if you are in need of some chill time in the very busy city!

SO next time you are around Piccadilly and in need of a break from the shops, Call in.Afternoon tea is 3-6 pm and of course you will be serenaded whilst you eat!

Priced at £28 a total bargain!

We who are fortunate to live on the N coast can rant and rave for days about the scenery and the beautiful beaches…but what about getting married in a unique historical building that has three windows with the best views in Ireland!

So here it is. The beautfiul Mussenden Temple and I have been fortunate enough to perform here quite a few times now!

Once you start climbing the steps,

The building inside is circular with a domed ceiling and will seat up to 100 peeps for your ceremony!

Love this black and white decor from The Wedding Room!
The accoustics are just fab for my Harpie!

Nows here’s that breathtaking view from the west window!

And the North window!

And the view towards Castlerock

You wont beat this view for your champagne reception!

Three in one church music!!

Les M: Posted on 21 September 2011 19:29

Recession and saving money seems to be the order of the day at present. If you are having a church wedding…if you book me , you not only have harpie, but a church organist and a vocalist as well. One price for all three services. Then moving on to the drinks reception, harpie and if the Hotel acccomodates, piano as well… that has got to be a complete bargain! The most majestic way for any bride and groom to exit the ceremony has got to be to Widors Toccata on the pipe organ…. just magnificent!

What's behind the Red Door?

Harpist Les Magee: Posted on 11 February 2015 00:15

THE RED DOOR COUNTRY HOUSE

My first visit to The Red Door Country House as Harpist Les Magee was quite some time ago…this is one of my old piccies with Harpie ready to roll in the Bar area.

In January of this Year, the whole place saw a major refurbishment of what already was a fabulously quaint and cozy wedding venue with one of the best views around….

This time I set up in the main lounge area with the wonderful open fire and comfy sofas. Gorgeous new decor adds to the ambiance of this light and airy room.

Before starting my drinks music I just had to have a wee sneak around to take in the new style and features. Here’s the beautiful dining room set in sumptuous warm velvet shades.

Room for 160 guests in this newly extended dining area. And just wait till you see the view from these windows…. Lough Swilly in full splendour!

The new reception area through to the dining area looks splendid!

With plenty of nice wee snug areas for a quiet drink!

And plenty of these fabulous canapes being handed around by the ever friendly staff!

Plenty of fires to keep you cozy…..

And plenty of ambiance as the sun goes down

Views to die for….great for your wedding photos!

See what I mean??

And this…is my favourite room of all…

So that is the Red Door Country Hotel according to the book of Harpist Les Magee!
Great for weddings serving 160 guests. Also great for afternoon tea ( which I have sampled) and also great for dinner. I’m hoping to go real soon!

Contact the lovely Frances, who will cater to your every whim!

Special offers for brides booking Harpie for this venue! Just mention my blog!

And plenty of the finest canapes being handed round by the wonderfully friendly staff….

RELIGIOUS CEREMONY... but not in church...

Les M: Posted on 01 November 2012 14:07

Heres a wee Blogaroo for you gals who arent having a church wedding, but all the same would like a religious ceremony!
There are so many beautiful venues from Hotels to Estate Houses and National Trust properties that you need not settle for a civil ceremony, just because you are not going to be in church!

If you are having trouble finding a minister, then look no further!

Now heres a man I met a while back. This is Rev Fred Cowan
and he will make the ceremony super special for you in his own relaxed way….guests will really enjoy him too!

fredwedd2b1@gmail.com

Next meet the Rev Dr Lee Glenny who is based in Coleraine!

jbglenny@btopenworld.com

Heres a wee ceremony at the Mussenden Temple. Was really lovely to have a religious ceremony in this very spectacular building, with Gods awesome creation surrounding us all!

Heres another wee religious ceremony, this time at the spectacular Phantom House, at Galgorm Resort and Spa
Galgorm will be happy to pass on info of this particular minister to you

Talking music for a moment… Harpie can be used to effect at a religious ceremony out of church. The harp has been used for congregational singing of hymns and it does work well. For those of you who still fancy a little organ music, we can arrange to hire a keyboard for you as well…just in case you fancy Widor or Mendelssohn for your exit music!

SO religious ceremony at your venue of choice is very much a possibility!!! hope this info has been helpful for those of you in search of a minister for your ceremony!

The Renaissance Suite at Galgorm... Keeping ahead of the times.

Les M: Posted on 23 April 2014 10:01

I guess it was only a few months ago, on one of my regular visits to Galgorm, that I heard of the new restoration plans for the Great Hall. It seems like no time at all, we were all studying the diagrams of forward planning and imagining what it would be like…well…what a job they have done!… and in such a whizz of a short space of time too!!

My first walk about the place was early on the morning of the open day. I can say that my breath was suitably taken away as I took in this wonderfully new and fresh environment…giving a nod to some of the best and newest 5 star hotels in London. So with out further ado, lets have a look at what this new Renaissance has to offer

Just before you enter…there’s the Renaissance garden…a trendy state of the art semi-covered outdoor area for fair weather. In a way its reminsicent of a roof terrace and is a great addition, meaning that guests can mingle out and indoors.

This area will prove atmospheric by day or night, with the gentle candle light and
an outdoor log burning fire for chilier evenings.

The main entrance gives way to this fabulous foyer with state of the art light fittings and beautiful furnishings. The high ceiling and wooden floor add the the wonderful accoustics for live music..especially my Harpie…she loved it!

From this foyer, double french windows open on to the Renaissance garden. This is a fabulous plan as it means your entertainment for drinks can be heard both outside and inside at the same time!

From the main foyer, a corridor passes through to the main lounge and bar area

Regal purple and golden moss in rich velvet upholstery is the order of the day, with a well lit bar and modern fire place that
still harks back to the golden era. A perfect mix of old hollywood glamour with innovative modern design.

Next we proceed into the main function room..
With its fabulously bright ambiance

The Hollywood glamour continues, with the spacious and well lit bar framing the room.

Ah Hark, who is this?
The wonderful James Robinson..
its always a pleasure!!!!

Just look at those wonderful lamps. Flowers by Sallys Floral Studio. Always gorgeous!

Another fabulous addition to the room are these comfortable booths with intimate lighting…perfect for when the party begins…
sit, relax and watch everyone else shake their thang!!!

Behind the top table, you have a fabulous view of that famous rolling river!

The word Renaissance itself is in essence a revival based on the old classical models and I would agree that the Suite has been well named. I am proud to have performed in this Suite on the day where thousands of people queued to be first to view it!

I could not have let this day pass without choosing a gown in keeping with this wonderful stylish venue. I did search high and low…and without knowing anything of the decor of the suite…this is what happened…co-incidence that everything matched perfectly!
Gown designed by Sheree at Cameo Bridal ( Ballymoney)
Stitched by Sandra Tompson, Coleraine.

Harpie is always pleased to perform at Galgorm for ceremony and reception. Special combined packages are available. Organ available for religious ceremonies too. Mail for special package deals Harpie1@live.co.uk

Slieve Donard Resort and Spa... a truly opulent wedding venue!

Les Magee: Posted on 08 July 2012 11:33

So last weekend saw me travel down Newcastle way for a beautiful wedding at Slieve Donard Resort and Spa. And what a fabulous place it is….

Well over a century old and oozing character, this is a fabulous venue.
It also boasts a wonderful spa for all your relaxation needs!

The beautiful gardens are framed
by the Newcastle beach and
the rolling Mountains of Mourne…
surely any photographers dream?

Beautifully tranquil and relaxing!

Of course in good old NI we have to
prepare for the worst case scenario of rainy rain rain….so lets sneak a pic inside……

Beautiful foyer complete with grand staircase and
open fire……love this!

And what a fireplace this is….

So heres whats in store
for your guests as
they arrive for the drinks
reception…..?

This area overlooks the gardens, beach and mountains…
beautifully laid tables and pristine staff to serve you……
And Harpie sets a beautiful ambiance too……

Lovely selection of drinks!

Delicious homemade shortbread
with tea and coffee….these were
yummy!

For me the other major positive is this wonderful grand piano….I can perform for drinks on Harpie and piano BOTH for the same price included….think jazz and cocktail, classical…great background for your drinks….

Perfection….in even the smallest detail…..

Heres a nice wee piccie of the lovely Naomi on her special day with the Harpie!

Bride and groom wait to make their big entrance at the wedding breakfast

I should add…..not only just for weddings…I have enjoyed a two day spa break here and can say the food in the main dining room was top notch….

The main lounge and bar area is deliciously decadent!

So if you are a bride in Co Down area looking for the splendid venue. This is it. Perfect building with the perfect view…perfect service and with…the perfect ambiance of both Harpie and Piano…what more can I say!!
Mohammad is the fabulous events manager… He’d be pleased to plan the perfect wedding for you

Solis Castle Eske library. harp for an intimate civil ceremonySolis Castle Harp for Drinks reception Sunday 23rd Oct sees two very important wedding fayres in two very splendid venues so I shall be blogging of these.

I never tire of talking of Solis Castle Eske. I discovered this place quite by acccident when it was in the last stages of completion and not yet opened to the public..but in true friendly style I was given a private tour of the place and thus started the love affair..what a place!!!! I have now lost count of the times I have visited both for work and pleasure…and working at Solis is a pleasure anyway!

This venue lends itself to both large sumptuous weddings in the ballroom or small intimate weddings, perhaps in the library, so theres lots of possibilities whatever your budget. Then of course theres the spa for relaxation, the Cedars Grill Restaurant and the Gallery and Oak Bars (yum to the huge choice at brekkie! and the romance of dinner in the evening!)

The function suite offers lots of possibilities for ceremony, drinks reception or wedding breakfast, regardless of the size of wedding. It also boasts two fabulous grand pianos which is a main bonus if you book me….you can have both the harp and the piano to serenade the guests!

The Hedges Hotel and Game of Thrones!

Les Magee: Posted on 23 February 2015 14:39

Ah well, after watching the second series of Game of Thrones I needed a wee trip out to see those famous Dark Hedges. This coincided with a wee visit to The Hedges Hotel!

Woo-de-woo!
I could not drag myself away from taking piccies and nearly getting knocked
down by cars several times!

Amazingly mysterious , I’m transported back in time to the scene from the Game of Thrones in Season 2…..

Meanwhile a mere stones throw away, a fabulous family run hotel is going from strength to strength, and they even tell me that the Game of Thrones cast paid them a visit during the filming!

At The Hedges Hotel you will get a welcome second to none. Friendly and homely but with vast new facilities too….

Just check out the spaciousness of the main function room. Happily it will seat 150 guests.

And plenty of quirky little alcoves
to enjoy a quiet drink!

Enjoy a bite in the A La Carte Restaurant… Or mosey downstairs to the Bistro for lunch… with its wood burning stoves and fabulous panoramic views!

Just look who I bumped into on
the way to explore the bedrooms!
For a moment I thought it was
Jon Snow…Winter is coming! lol

For honeymooners , this is the bridal suite…

Fab jacuzi bathroom.

Even the standard rooms are plush!

Then it was through reception and
to the Bistro for my lunch..

Chilli Chicken toastie …yumaroo! And I can highly recommend the vegetable broth…if that is on the wedding reception menu then its a win from me…to tasty to photograph, it was down the hatch 🙂

And so it was back to the Hedges… ah who is this but local artist, Rosella Watton-Austin who has an invested interest in painting The Hedges (amongst other things!)… love these colours.

Ah just one more pic….

And the final word must go to The Hedges Hotel. Wedding fayre on 8th March.
Call in to view the splendid function suite set up for a wedding! You might even hear some Harpie in the background too

Thanks to Manager James for showing us around.

TITANIC BELFAST... a very special venue for brides!

Les M: Posted on 09 May 2012 21:04

So amidst all of the last few months of Titanic Fever, I excitedly received a booking to come play in this mighty museum. On the run up, I had been following many of the historical programmes on TV so I was in a real state of excitement when I arrived at the service entrance…along with Harpie Gal of course!

The sheer height of the building is an
amazing sight to see….but gives an idea of the height of the ship itself

Now once inside…I was marvelling at the wonderful carpet…and the points of the compass….and how a gals gown always has to match (LOL)

Now for the one thing that really made my evening…getting to see the staircase…gave me goosebumps.
It really is a fabulous structure and is the focal point in the ballroom

You can but wonder how passengers had felt when they first saw this in all its glory….

Just had to get up there for a piccie!

The ballroom was beautifully set for dinner…just as it might have been on the first night of the voyage

And on closer inspection, was dressed
with reproduction china from that first
journey. Amazing.

Such attention to detail shown in these vintage floral arrangements by FLORAL EARTH

Heres the Harpie Gal and me ready to roll in the beautiful lounge

Even the loos are swishhhhh!!!!

Mens nicer than the ladies…methinks!

The most exciting thing of all is that this very special ballroom with staircase and beautiful lounge and bar area are available for rental for your wedding!

Tullylagan Country House Hotel... what a beautiful wedding venue...

Posted on 20 April 2012 23:00

Now after having been at the Tullylagan House Hotel last week for their annual wedding fayre…my thought was I simply have to boast about the merits of this place on my bloggie.

A little bit of Olde World Charm with fabulous gardens for your piccies and an amazing marquee for your special day.

So I had a little peak around the main manor house and into reception,
where theres a beautiful lounge area…

But what I love best of all is their function suite. Its so atmospheric and reminds me of a medieval dining hall…set for dinner or civil ceremony it really has a wonderful atmosphere all of its own!!

Beautiful top table set up!

Set up for a civil ceremony!
and who is that I see? hmmm
Harpie gal sneaking in to the shot..

In all honesty the room suits the instrument very well and makes for a most romantic atmosphere… awwwww

Heres the huge marquee with dance floor and also the bar!

To the rear of the marquee there are toilets with a little rest area… everything is catered for!

So now a quick gander around the gardens and a few sneaky places for your wedding piccies!!!

So there you have it… another of my favourite venues… versatile… whether you’d like the functions suite or the opulent marquee, Tullylagan is pleased to cater for all sizes of weddings, with fabulous menus, excellent lounges and beautiful gardens surrounding the Manor… what more could a gal ask for???

Waterfoot Hotel... fabulous wedding venue!!!

Les M: Posted on 19 September 2012 13:07

So this year has found me with Harpie in a handful of new wedding venues. I did stop on the way to a Donegal wedding one day just to check the place out…and what lovely staff I found. They gave me a wee mini tour and to my surprise in a few weeks I was booked for a beautiful champagne reception, following a beautiful ceremony in St Eugenes Cathedral.

Don’t I just love this reception area….great for indoor piccies too!

Wow factor!

So the red carpet was ready for the special arrivals after the ceremony.
Beautiful lanterns set the tone too!

This opulent reception area,
just off the function suites
really is to die for

And here is Harpie set up and read to go in the fabulous reception area with a very
impressive bar!
But before I start must nip to loo………….

Totally love this…..

Love love love the loos!!!!

Now heres what you will find in the
wonderful function room, set up beautifully for your wedding dinner…..

Beautiful chandeliers on the ceiling too…

Guests await the bride
and groom before the meal commences!

And another wee sneak
at that beautifully set function room…

And a wee look at the
beautiful winebar….great for a bite any night!

The Hotel has packages to suit all
wedding sizes and all budgets….
Why not check it out.

Your ceremony music... Religious or Civil?

Posted on 18 November 2011 13:28

I am always harpin on about how important the music is for your big day….the key is to find not only a performer who is top notch, but also someone who can advise you on what actually works in the given scenario! One of the good things for me about my job is that the location and set up is changing constantly as I travel around Ireland. One day a civil ceremony in a hotel, the next a mass in a fabulous chapel. Every wedding is different but my wish is to make that day as special as the one that came before and the one that will follow after.

Civil ceremonies in Hotels need not be restrictive. There are some fabulous and creative people now who will be able to set up your event in the most romantic of fashions. One such person is Victoria in The Wedding Room. This photo shows her beautiful set up last week in the gorgeous and lovingly restored vintage building that is Portrush Town Hall. She is based in Coleraine and is a joy to work with…your wish will be her command!

Once you have the layout of the room sorted, its on to the music. Because of the logistics, you need someone who can move in easily and create the ambiance. Enter Harpie!

I have done many civil ceremonies now in lots of different scenarios and its my idea that the service should be sculpted around the music. Most of these ceremonies cannot have any religious content so that has to be considered when chosing the repertoire. I have a good choice of music and songs… contact me for advice.

If you are set on a religious ceremony in church, then there are loads of possibilities.

Organ for hymns at St Michaels, enniskillen Last week saw a lovely wedding mass in Belfast. In this particular ceremony I gave a harp recital at the start and then moved to the Gallery for the brides entry on a fabulous 3 manual pipe organ. I sang various parts of the mass from the gallery and the accoustic added so much to this. Then it was back to the harp for the signing of the registry. and finally back to the organ for a big flurry of an exit. (here I am playing Widor Toccata…I always have to sneak that in before I pack up and go home!!!!) So variation can be the order of the day, if you are in church. I have a wide selection of music for mass and church service both with a good selection of traditional and more modern hymns that will get that congregation singing their hearts out!!!
